Tapped In Code of Professional Conduct

Tapped In houses a community of education practitioners, administrators, support providers, and researchers committed to professional values and standards of conduct. Tapped In members and guests must adhere to professional standards of conduct, as you would in any professional workplace or conference center. Please join with us in supporting the following user interaction guidelines:

  1. Swearing, offensive language (verbal or nonverbal), obscenity, harassment, rudeness, or other inappropriate conduct is not tolerated. If you feel that you have been subjected to unprofessional behavior while in Tapped In, please log the interaction and bring it to the attention of the Tapped In staff.

  2. Do not "barge" into a personal office. Use private messaging to ask permission before joining someone in their office.

  3. Respect the privacy of conversations and documents in personal offices. Public ASO sessions are routinely recorded, and transcripts are posted publicly. All other conversations are captured on your personal transcript. Personal transcripts are assumed to be private to the people involved; they may not be posted publically (e.g., on a listserv or discussion board) without the prior consent of the participants. Treat conversations as you would a face-to-face or phone conversation (tape-recording and publishing the transcript without the consent of the other participants is inappropriate). Tapped In staff are happy to discuss specific consent procedures with instructors, researchers, and students conducting research.

  4. Tapped In encourages you to seek help from and offer assistance to other members and guests. If you are asked for help and feel you are not able to provide it, it is ok to inform the person that you are not able to help them. Do not simply ignore the person. If you need help and the help desk staff is not around, feel free to ask another person.

  5. Tapped In encourages you to engage in social conversation with people who you may not know in its public areas. You may politely ask to join a conversation or introduce yourself to other users in public areas (e.g., reception, cafe). Use the little green i (for info) button at the bottom of the user list to see a person's profile.

  6. As a rule, members must be older than high school age. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis. Temporary student memberships are available for K-12 students who are sponsored by a Tapped In member.

  7. You agree to not use Tapped In to upload or otherwise make available material that you do not have the legal right to make available. This includes commercially licensed material (such as popular MP3's) or any content that infringes any patent, trademark, copyright or other proprietary rights. You also agree not to post any unsolicited or unauthorized advertising, "junk mail," "spam," "chain letters," "pyramid schemes," or any other form of solicitation. Tapped In reserves the right to remove any material that violates these terms, and terminate your Tapped In account for breaches or violations of these terms. Note: we periodically scan for commercially licensed material (like popular MP3's) and if found, these are deleted.

To help assure that our members and guests are not subjected to abusive behavior, we record your IP address every time you log in. If inappropriate behavior is reported, we may provide this information to the offending user's internet service provider with a request that they discontinue the service of the customer who abused our system. We may also ban the IP address of the offender from accessing our site in the future.

These guidelines will be amended and added to by the community. Please contact us if you have questions or want to make suggestions about this policy.

Tapped In Guest Access Policy

Guests have access to all public areas and are welcome to attend all public events. However, there are many restrictions on what guests can do. For example, guests cannot post to discussion boards, add resources (such as files or links), write to whiteboards, or create groups. Guests also do not receive email transcripts of their chat discussions.

All members and guests are expected to adhere to our code of conduct. Swearing, offensive language (verbal or nonverbal), obscenity, harassment, rudeness, or other inappropriate conduct is not tolerated. To help assure that our members and guests are not subjected to abusive behavior, we record the IP address and all conversations of all guests. If inappropriate behavior is reported, we may provide this information to the offending user's internet service provider with a request that they discontinue the service of the customer who abused our system. We may also ban the IP address of the offender from accessing our site in the future.

Please contact us if you have questions about this policy.
